Exercise Approaches in Sarcopenic Obesity

The prevalence of sarcopenic obesity is rising worldwide—especially among decaying populations. The decrease in skeletal muscle mass and function (sarcopenia) and the increase in fat mass (obesity) are problems that worsen the prognosis of chronic diseases and significantly contribute to the development of physical limitations. The combination of the two conditions, called sarcopenic obesity, is an important risk factor that further increases the likelihood of adverse health problems. In the literature, the importance of preventing and/or treating sarcopenic obesity is emphasized in many clinical studies.

Social Stigma and the COVID-19 Pandemic

Social stigma can be defined as ‘social rejection resulting from perceived negative characteristics.’ Social stigma is an important issue that negatively affects social and mental processes and has undesirable consequences. The chaotic environment that emerged due to the COVID-19 Global Epidemic has caused many people to be stigmatized. Especially the patients, the elderly, those who travel abroad, health workers, some countries/nations, and even celebrities have become the target of social stigma. Fear of stigma can cause negative consequences such as not wanting to receive treatment—especially in an epidemic when people become more fragile.

Surgery and the Operating Room From Past to Present

Knowing the evolutionary process in surgery and operating rooms play a key role in health research and development studies and in planning the future. In particular, the discovery of anesthesia and the widespread use of anesthesia brought about the development of surgery. Until today’s surgical methods were found, serious processes were experienced. In particular, the introduction of laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery into clinical use has led to great breakthroughs in surgical branches. The coronavirus pandemic process we are experiencing has also been an important process in terms of ensuring the adaptation of the health sector to developing environmental conditions.

Turkish Validity and Reliability Study of The LGBT Ally Identity Measure

Aim: This study is carried out to make the Turkish validity and reliability of the LGBT Ally Identity Measure. Methods: The study is conducted with 215 participants. LGBT Ally Identity Measure was created by K. Nicole Jones et al., and the researchers used a demographic information form consisting of 21 questions prepared for data collection.

The Effect of COHb, Troponin I and Lactate Levels on Prognosis in Patients With Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Followed in the Intensive Care Unit

Purpose: Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and non-irritating gas and is formed as a result of insufficient combustion of carbon-based fuels. Carbon monoxide poisoning is an important public health problem and accounts for 8-34% of all poisoning cases. This study aims to compare the demographic, clinical, and treatment characteristics of the patients we follow up with carbon monoxide poisoning in the intensive care unit and to determine the relationship between the COHb, troponin I, and lactate levels of the patients and the clinical course and results.

Determination of Mercury Exposure Among Dentists

Aim: Mercury is a highly toxic heavy metal found in nature which evaporates at room temperature. Toxicological and ecological damages of mercury due to amalgam fillings and mercury related equipment used in dentistry are reported. This study aims to determine whether dentists are exposed to mercury due to dental practices and to discuss the measures to be taken via occupational health and safety together with environmental control practices to avoid exposure to mercury.

Ancient Schwannoma of Abdominal Wall: A Case Report

Schwannomas are mostly asymptomatic benign tumors originating from peripheral or cranial nerve sheath cells. They are rare and slow-growing tumors that may present with compression-related symptoms such as a palpable mass or incidentaloma. Schwannoma, which is frequently located on the flexor surfaces of the head, neck, and extremities, is usually diagnosed by radiological and pathognomonic microscopic and immunohistochemistry features. Herein, we report the case of a 31-year-old woman who presented with a palpable mass on the lateral abdominal wall.
